Data sings and it’s “Revolutionary”! (A true Trekker would already know this)

Ladies and Gentlemen…Brent Spiner as John Adams.

Lovely, isn’t it?

I was reading the comments on youtube and so many people were amazed that Brent can sing.  (!!)  These were not true Trekkers, I’ll say that.  A true Trekker would know that life began way before Data.  A true Trekker would know Sunday in the Park with George.  A true Trekker would know that Brent Spiner was acting for 15 years before Star Trek: The Next Generation!  A true Trekker would remember that Brent sang and danced in various episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as in the ST movies (Particularly, Star Trek: Insurrection).  So, why were they so shocked that he’s a good singer?!

Okay, I’m fine now.

I chose this video to share for 3 basic reasons:

  1. I love 1776.  It’s one of my favorite musicals.  I was stage manager for a summer stock production of this show…the congressional scenes are VERY long…but I loved every minute of it.  (Yes, yes, the play is better than the movie.  But the movie is great, too.)
  2. Brent Spiner’s rendition of the song is really fabulous.  I do love to listen to Brent’s voice.  It’s quite lovely.  I wish I could have seen him perform John Adams in this production.  That would have been spectacular.  (I have gotten to see him on stage…with Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden and Colm Meaney in Every Good Boy Deserves Favor.  I can’t remember what year it was, but it was a while ago.  And it was ridiculously cool.)
  3. I actually sing this song to myself every now and then when I think about this blog. LOL

  1. 1776 is one of my favorite musicals too, and like you I think about that song sometimes. There’s also Bruce Hornsby’s “Circus on the Moon”

I consider myself a Trekkie, not a Trekkor, being thoroughly attached first to the first series. My quid pro quo on your Brent Spiner encounters is having seen Leonard Nimoy in Vincent, a one-man play about Vincent Van Gogh as told by his brother. It was ridiculously cool.

    • I’ve tried to get into ST:TOS…but I just haven’t been able to. I do enjoy the movies with the cast from TOS. ST:TNG was my favorite. It’s the one that hooked me.

You have one-upped me with Leonard Nimoy – he’s elusive!

      Thanks for stopping in, Karin!
