NaBloPoMo (11/2016) – Day 18: Going to my happy place

The last few blog posts I’ve written have dealt with fairly serious, heavy subjects. I think they were warranted, actually. This month has brought about some serious, heavy emotions in me. In many of us. And since I don’t have a lot of people that I can just vent with at the drop of a hat, I needed to get those thoughts and fears and ideas out somehow. (Besides, my cats aren’t great listeners. They just roll their eyes at me and go back to their naps.)

So, I want to take this opportunity to focus less on the serious, heavy subjects and more on things that are a bit more fun.

Things I’m happy about and/or looking forward to:

Harry Potter Weekend: Yes, it’s Harry Potter Weekend once again on Freeform. A whole weekend of all 8 Harry Potter movies. I have all of the DVDS, so, sure, I can watch them any time I want. But Freeform shows the extended versions. I don’t have those on DVD.

Refrigerator Tuesday: My new refrigerator is being delivered and installed on Tuesday. This is the first time I’ve purchased a major appliance all on my own. I’ve always lived in places that were already furnished with appliances. I was part of the process when we got a new washer/dryer set, but the decision was ultimately my mother’s and grandmothers. So, this is a big deal for me. Plus, it’s my incentive to clean off all of the magnets and photos from the old fridge.

Countdown to Christmas: I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again: I love the Hallmark Channel during this time of year. Christmas music is off limits until the day after Thanksgiving. But I’m all in when it comes to Hallmark Christmas movies. I have about 25 of them on my DVR already.

Awards Season: We’re quickly approaching that time of the year when Carleen suddenly finds an interest in pretty dresses. The Golden Globes, The Oscars, The SAG Awards, The Independent Spirit Awards, The Directors’ Guild Awards, etc., etc., etc. Once again, I’m all in. I watch everything – the red carpet arrivals, the interviews, the awards, the press room interviews.  And this all leads me to my next point….

Movies: This is when a great number of the awards “contenders” are released. Amy Adams is in two movies right now that are getting lots of awards buzz – Arrival and Nocturnal Animals. Both movies look really good. Jackie with Natalie Portman looks fantastic. In December we’ll also get Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Passengers, The Space Between Us, Collateral Beauty, Fencesand so many others. Hidden Figures  and Split are coming to theatres in January. Hopefully I’ll find a nearby theatre playing Loving. So there’s a lot to see in the next few weeks.

Allegiance: I’ve got tickets to see Allegiance – the musical inspired by George Takei’s life. With all of the talk now about a “Muslim Registry,” this musical about the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII is so very important.

So those are the happy things in my life right now. I’m going to hold tight to those happy things to get me through.
